Dear Colleagues
Well we have nearly reached the end of the year. The Jacaranda is in full bloom and the students are just about finished with the exams. Staff are looking forward to the summer break and a few days off to relax and enjoy the sun.
We wish you a smooth end to 2009, a relaxing time off and an exciting start to 2010

The GAELIC Strategic Plan report back
Once again we have seen an exciting time for GAELIC with several new ideas on the table.. including an investigation into the
challenges facing 21st century academic libraries and the need to consider ways to update our
services to users with disabilities. Also under the microscope is the need to look at succession
planning and joint projects related to African content. Watch this space carefully.
We ended the year on a high note with the Summer Training Camp and thank all who presented and attended.
2010 promises to be a year providing many thrilling new challenges and hard work.

Objective 2 : Build capacity through identification and provision of training needs and services for the optimal utilization of resources
Over 100 people registered for the event held at Wits University Library. There were 4 parallel sessions focusing on differing needs and interests of library staff. Papers and photos will be placed on the GAELIC website early in 2010. Comments and feedback is still welcome so that we can plan a better event next year. Thanks to all for their input.
